Silhouette Memories

Yesterday my husband and I celebrated our 19 year anniversary. It’s absolutely crazy how quickly time flies. In what seems like very short time period, we went from being poor college students living in student housing to four kids and a house mortgage to go with it. As we discussed what the next 19 years hold for us it’s crazy to think our youngest will be 25 and we’ll probably have grandkids! I love looking back and seeing how far we’ve come and I wouldn’t change a thing.

In keeping with Andrea’s love of memories, I created a collage of silhouette photos of my kids a couple of months ago. At a glance, even my 5 year old quickly recognized each of his siblings. Making silhouettes is simple and highly rewarding. Computer programs such as adobe illustrator or photoshop make it a breeze. A simpler version can be done by tracing a photo and then cutting it out and mounting it on paper.

My version was created in adobe illustrator and then printed on matte photo paper. All of my frames were recycled very formal gold leafed frames that I picked up at a flea market for about .50-.75 each. A quick coat of classic black spray paint and a teeny bit of silver leafing make each one pop on my grey walls.

A friend asked me make a silhouette of her daughter with her name and age. When framed, it made an adorable gift for her (very picky) mother in law. Another fun use for the silhouette is custom pendants. One of my best friends created these gorgeous pendants. Her work is beautiful and I love wearing my piece of art.
